Collier Park to host new golf initiative for first-time dads

7th Feb 2023

‘Dads in the Rough’, a new golf initiative aimed at first-time dads, will stage its inaugural event at Collier Park on Sunday, February 12.

The Dads in the Rough program offers new fathers the opportunity to get together, have fun and grow a valuable support network. Its first event will take place at Collier Park’s mini golf course at 10am on Sunday, February 12, with ambitions to grow and provide regular get-togethers both on and off the course.

Dads in the Rough was conceived by avid golfer Aaron Lee after his own recent struggles to adapt to the responsibility of fatherhood. “Being a first-time dad can be extremely daunting and there don’t seem to be many organisations specifically dedicated to supporting new dads,” said Aaron. “Dads in the Rough was created to be that group where you can connect with other dads in the same situation as yourself while shanking your drive far right for the fifth time that day!”

Collier Park’s mini golf course will host the first Dads in the Rough event

Collier Park’s mini golf course was chosen to host the first event to reduce the fear factor for new golfers. “It can be quite intimidating if it’s your first time on a golf course, never held a golf club and you’re meeting strangers,” added Aaron. “Staging our first event on the mini golf course will hopefully make the event accessible for as many people as possible and provide the sort of relaxed atmosphere conducive to forging new friendships.”

All members of the family are welcome at the inaugural event, with tickets costing $21 for adults and $14 for children, which includes putters, golf balls and scorecards. Tickets and full details of the event are available here. Aaron will also provide brief tours of Collier Park’s facilities for those completely new to golf who are interested in learning more about pathways into the game.

If you’re after regular updates, Dads in the Rough are also active on Facebook and Instagram.
