Around the World: WA Amateurs solid early

20th May 2018

Find the latest news on all our Western Australian professional golfers travelling around the globe.

The past week has centred on the 118th US Open at Shinnecock Hills, and the tournament certainly delivered its fair share of drama and excitement.

West Aussie Jason Scrivener was desperately unlucky not to make the cut in incredibly difficult conditions, with a double-bogey at the last moving the Mandurah local to nine-over-par, just one shot from weekend qualification.

Despite the disappointment, the 29-year-old will have taken plenty from a challenging couple of days – with American Brooks Koepka becoming the last man standing to capture his second straight US Open.

Hannah Green and Minjee Lee begin the NW Arkansas Championship tomorrow at the Pinnacle Country Club, with Lee having finished T6 last year.

Both have struggled in recent weeks and will be looking for a consistent performance throughout the tournament.

The male Amateurs are midway through the prestigious Amateur Championship at Royal Aberdeen.

The winner receives entry into the 2018 Open Championship as well as the 2019 Masters and US Open.

Ben Ferguson was our best performing athlete after making the top 64 in match play.

Robbie Morrison, Haydn Barron and Kiran Day were all unable to make the cut.

Joondalup’s Josh Greer will play in the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters in London this week, with the tournament highly regarded as one of the best in the world for junior golfers.

Greer is Australia’s top-ranked Boy currently, and has started his European trip soundly with a second place finish at the Scottish Boys’.

Min Woo Lee is taking a break after a number of cruelling weeks on the Korean Pro circuit- with the youngster set to head to the US next week.
