Joondalup’s Amie Phobubpa has secured her place in this week’s Women’s Vic Open on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia after coming through Monday qualifying.

Phobubpa, the 18-year-old GolfWA High Performance athlete, topped the qualifying field by shooting a two-under-par 69 at Ranfurlie Golf Club. Phobubpa will now line up against the likes of Major winners Karrie Webb and Jiyai Shin in the 84-woman field.

There is further WA interest in the Women’s Vic Open with Royal Fremantle amateur Abbie Teasdale having earned an invite and former amateur sensations Kirsten Rudgeley and Kathryn Norris also competing. You can view the Round 1 draw here.

In the concurrent men’s event, further GolfWA HP athletes Joshua Greer (Joondalup) and Joseph Buttress (WAGC) have sponsors exemptions alongside Lake Karrinyup amateur Joseph Owen. The three will compete alongside fellow Western Australians Hayden Hopewell, Connor McKinney, Brett Rumford and Brayden Becker amongst others. The R1 draw can be viewed here.

Both the Men’s and Women’s Vic Opens will take place at the 13th Beach Golf Links on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula, southwest of Melbourne. Both events have an equal prize pot of $420,000. Former winners include Hannah Green (2022) and Minjee Lee (2014 and 2018) in the women’s event, and Min Woo Lee (2020) in the men’s.
